S.D.College Barnala

The Sanatan Dharam College, Barnala is one of the prestigious institutions of the region.The College is run by S.D. College educational Society regd. Barnala. The foundation of it was laid in 1956 under the guidance of Dr. Raghubir Parkash, a multi-faceted personality. Today it occupies a place of pride in the area. These fifty years would undoubtedly go down the annals of the college as a period of great development and amazing progress. Originally it was an arts college affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. Later on as per Punjab Govt. notification, the colleges falling in four districts namely Patiala, Sangrur, Bathinda and Ropar, were affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala.

From the very beginning the institution is on the path of progress. In 1962, Science faculty was added to create solid base of literate population. The plan did not stop here. In 1974, Commerce faculty was supplemented to adorn the existing structure. To meet the needs of the people of Barnala and adjoining areas, it was required that some technical and professional courses should be started. In 1998, PGDCA course was initiated . The process of development was on. In 2000, The courses of BCA, BMIT were introduced to provide an opportunity to the students to derive the greatest benefit of modern technology. The task is not over. Why to lag behind in the era of competition? To add further feather to the crown, B.Sc. Bio-Technology was started in 2005. The successive years stand witness to the systematic planning with major thrust on creating basic infrastructure for all - round development of students' personality. The credit of this splendid progress goes to the hardworking and diligent staff of the college and of course to the Managing Committee which always gives positive direction to the development endeavors of the institution. The highly economical fee structure is attracting more and more students.

The campus building with its open playgrounds, a vast hall for indoor games, spacious and airy classrooms, well-equipped science labs, hi-tech air-conditioned computer labs and well furnished library sparks volumes of its grandeur. Special thrust is being laid on providing quality education to the students along with other related programmes, with other co-curricular activities. The methods vary-workshops panel or group discussions, seminars, dialogues and brain-storming. The efforts of all teachers and management members is to pull the entire faculty in one direction that of "institution building".
