Once in a hundred years comes a man through whom the soul of a region expresses himself. Such a personality is Sh. Jatinder Nath Sharma of Barnala. His dynamic personality, his charming manners, winsome smile, his transparent sincerity of purpose and great eloquence win for him the spontaneous love and esteem of all who come in contact with him.

Son of Sh. Anand Saroop, Sh. Jatinder Nath Sharma was brought up in an atmosphere of comfort and refinement. The story of his school days is the story of achieving great heights. After doing his graduation from S.D. College Barnala, he went to chandigarh and did his LLB from Punjab University. Thereafter, he started his career as a lawyer and has always maintained the grace of his profession.

With his intelligence, diligence and broad outlook, he has made S.D. College an ideal institution within a short period. The institution today occupies a unique position in Punjabi University, Patiala. It imparts education in arts, commerce, science and professional courses like PGDCA, BCA, BMIT, BIO-Technology.The institution comprises Degree College, S.D. College of Education, S.D. College Of Pharmacy and Dr. Raghubir Parkash Sen. Sec. School. Under his dynamic leadership these institutes are progressing by leaps and bounds. Students not only from Punjab but from other states too come to study here.

Sh. Jatinder Nath Sharma takes keen interest in sports and social activities and similar reflection is visible among students guided and groomed by him. Himself a former champion in Basketball and Handball, he still spares his precious moments for budding players. The credit of establishing the game of netball in Punjab goes to him. While occupying the post of General Secretary of Punjab Netball Association since 1992,he had to face numerous difficulties in organising this game. Despite the indifferent attitude of Punjab government, he took the initiative of holding inter-district competitions at all levels. He organises coaching camps to motivate the players. He regularly looks out for the fresh talent and strives to polish the raw diamonds. A centre of Punjab Police is being run on S.D. College campus due to his untiring efforts. In Netball, the male team has been the champion for the past seven years while the women counterparts have held the covered title for three years.

Sh. Jatinder Nath Sharma is beyond appreciation, beyond praise, beyond comparison. And no language can describe his services rendered to people of Barnala. His selfless services as president of Barnala Boxing Club, as president of District Basketball Association and as vice President of Barnala Sports Development Council, President of Bar council Barnala command our admiration. His contribution to Lions Club Barnala, Blood Donor Society and the school for Deaf and Dumb is highly spoken of by all. He has organised a number of blood donation camps and medical camps with a bubbling social spirit. He himself has donated blood innumerable times.

Sh. Jatinder Nath Sharma has been a dedicated congress leader for many decades. Since his days of youth, he has occupied numerous posts in the party set-up. In 1985,he served as General Secretary of Punjab Youth Congress and made his mark as a congress leader. He has left an indelible impression on young people with his integrity and sincerity. Such a man is certainly a unique combination of greatness and grace.
